Mummolaakso ry is a registrated association founded in Helsinki 1994 with the aim to enhance lesbians' and bi-women's mutual solidarity and care. Another aim is to offer an alternative to the traditional geriatric care, which would take into account also lesbian/bi-identity.
To realize its aims Mummolaakso
-gives information about the lesbians' and bi-women's circumstances both domestically and abroad hereby trying to influence the state's sexual minority policy in Finland
-raises funds by consulting, arranging courses, leisure activities and restaurant services.
With these funds Mummolaakso aims to provide voluntary visits, alternative healthcare and terminal care as well as community centres and housing services for lesbians and bisexual women.
Presently Mummolaakso arranges dances, excursions, theatre visits and weekend camps. The aim is to offer information, recreation and possibilities to make and maintain contacts with other lesbians and bi-women. The goal is also to build a social network to help individuals suffering from loneliness, illness and other crises.
We have a vision of Mummolaakso old people's home or day centre but before we are so far it can be - as the first step - a house where to organize weekend camps and courses. At the moment we are collecting funds mainly by organizing dances.
Despite its name Mummolaakso ("Granny Valley") is open for women of all ages. Most of our members are 30-60 years old.
Becoming a member is the best way to get information. Members receive regular membership mail and also get a discount on the entrance fees of our dances and courses.
"In the future we will be strong, wise and wild grannies!"
